Established in 2005, Te Kupeka Umaka Maori Ki Araiteuru (KUMA) is the Maori Business Network for the Otago/Southland region.  The network consists of 3 geographic centres (Dunedin, Invercargill and Queenstown).  The KUMA network is administrated from Dunedin.
Vivienne Kennedy and Merv Aoake are the co-ordinators for Hui in Queenstown and Aimee Kaio and Sumaria Beaton the co-ordinators for Hui in Invercargill.

Our broad base of business people can be seen on the Members Directory.

Initial Te Puni Kokiri funding allowed for the establishment costs, marketing material and market research surveys. The network is now maintained through a combination of corporate sponsorship and membership subscriptions.

Membership to the KUMA network allows access to:

  • The KUMA website which is the central point of contact, profiling members, their business and informing of local training opportunities and events.

  • The 2-Day Annual KUMA Hui held on local Marae which is free to subscribed members.  This Hui brings together members from across the regions to meet while learning from inspiring guest speakers.

  • Developing relationships between KUMA and the Otago University School of Business to partner senior students with members to conduct research on ways to improve aspects of their business. Please advise administration if you are interested in taking part in these projects.
